Trapper Badovinac can’t remember a time when he didn’t love to fish. His father and grandfather taught him the sport when he was four years old, and he soon learned to appreciate the excitement only a mountain stream could deliver. Growing up in Canon City, Colorado, he fished the trout-plentiful Arkansas River and many other rivers and lakes throughout the Centennial State. After high school, he spent four years in the Navy and then attended California State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. During his college years, he fished heavily in the Sierras of Northern California.

After graduation, he worked as a professional photographer and graphic artist. He moved to Montana in 1996 and guided on the Missouri, Smith and Blackfoot Rivers until 2006. He is lecturing on fly fishing and entomology, and his articles have been published in Fly Fisherman, Northwest Fly Fishing, Southwest Fly Fishing, Fly Rod & Reel, and many others..

In May of 2003 he released his first book Fly Fishing Montana’s Missouri River. His second book, Fly Fishing the Solitude–Montana, followed in May 2006 following the same format of his Missouri River book with pragmatic advice coupled with beautiful photography and illustrations. This second book gives the reader a step-by-step guide to finding, evaluating, and fishing small streams in Montana. Both books are now out of print but signed copies are available from the author.

This well versed outdoorsman is a much sought after lecturer. He speaks to clubs all over the United States during the winter months. His presentations are professional, packed with how to information, and are illustrated with his award winning photography and computer graphics.

“After guiding for many years it was evident that when people had a chance to compare drift boats side by side, they always picked the Hyde. Clients would fish out of Clackacrafts, Koeflers, etc. and after getting in my boat would often comment about how much better the Hyde was. So go out and try all the others, then treat yourself to the very best; treat yourself to a Hyde because you’re worth it.”Trapper Badovinac
