I started guiding fly fishing in 1992 in southwest MT, while working in one of the fly shops in Bozeman MT, and going to school. After graduating, I went to Alaska as a guide for one of the Fly Out fishing lodges in the Iliamna drainage. Upon returning from Alaska, I continued on with my fly fishing career, and spent three years as the operations and IT manager for The Fly Shop in Redding California. Working there I was awarded the opportunity to fish all over the world. I have hosted fly fishing trips in Russia, Alaska, Christmas Island, Venezuela, Mexico, Belize, and Canada. And domestically I have fished and or guided for most opportunities of game fish in America. From Stripers and Blues on the New England coast, to Rainbows on California’s Sacramento River, To summer steelhead on the famous North Umpqua river, and many of those in between. Now I have a unique opportunity to manage a professional career, while continuing on with my fly fishing career guiding and teaching fly fishing in SW Montana.

“I started rowing Hyde drift boats in 1997, and was extremely impressed by the fishability of the boat. The Hyde, more than any of the other boats that I had rowed, had the optimal combination of comfort, flow for the fisherman, size, and rowability. I was extremely impressed with the little things such as the rod holders in the dry storage to protect the tips, the rounded rear chine to help the boat with its steering, the ability for the boat to take BIG water, and to take the day after day abuse that a guide can put it through. My Hyde boats are on the water more than a hundred days a year, and have maneuvered rivers across the country, from the class IV White Horse Rapid on Oregon’s Deschutes River, to the stealthy spring creek like situations on the Big Horn, my Hyde boats have everything it takes to make my day more comfortable, and to help with my success.”Steven Frey
