Garry, a native Albertan, grew up in central Alberta, where his love of the outdoors and fly fishing began at the early age of eight years. Armed with an 8.5 ft. fiberglass pole, he set out to cut his teeth, flyfishing for some of the toughest, elusive, large brown trout that spring creeks and other local waters had to offer. Garry’s passion for flyfishing has taken him to the remote areas of Alaska, Southern Chile and many places in between hunting for that photo of a trophy. During our season, Garry is on the water daily. When he’s not fishing with clients, he’s floating rivers gaining more experience and knowledge for future clients.

After accepting an invitation to attend the Hyde Guide School in 1996, Garry and his wife Connie took their love of fly fishing to the next level, forming what is now the company, Tailwater Drifters. With the addition of a second Hyde Low Profile, they now specialize in personalized, professional service for a maximum of four guests per week. Float trips on the Red Deer (Garry’s Backyard and home water) and Bow rivers are offered along with walk and wade trips to spring creeks, high altitude freestone rivers and lakes. The company packages these in single days or extended stays. Angling opportunities exist for browns, bulls, brooks, rainbows and cutthroat trout. Included in the package is transportation to and from the designated fishing area of the day and first class lunches made fresh daily from Connie’s Kitchen.

“Hyde’s lightweight low pros are the boat of choice at Tailwater Drifters. They easily unload & load single handedly, even in high winds. Guests are amazed at the thin water we will navigate the low pros through. Elderly guests continually comment on the ease of entering and exiting. More than ample storage space allows us to pack tent camps for extended stays on the water. We have rowed other boats……but…….once you have worked a Hyde Low Pro…….the others seem…well…just ordinary!”Garry Pierce
