South Fork
The South Fork of the Snake River is home to
large populations of cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout.
The river is considered by many to be the top cutthroat fishery

end of June when the salmon fly hatch occurs.
Dry fly enthusiasts enjoy abundant hatches of stoneflies,
caddis, pale morning duns, and blue wing olives throughout
the season. Fishing terrestrials and attractor patterns can
be a heart stopping experience on the South Fork during the
summer months.
Fall is also an exciting time to fish the South Fork. Midges
and Blue Wing Olives offer anglers excellent dry fly fishing
opportunities. The Fall also offers tremendous streamer fishing
for trophy brown trout. The river produced the Idaho State
Record, weighing over 30 pounds. The South Fork enters a picturesque,
road-less canyon fifteen miles below Palisades Reservoir.
Idaho's largest remaining stand of riparian cottonwoods provides
crucial habitat for bald eagles, osprey, peregrine falcons,
great blue herons, elk, deer, moose, and bear in the canyon.
