FISHING REPORT FOR JUNE 5TH, 2006: We are now starting to warm up – mid 80s. The rivers are still high and have quite a lot of color. The super high flows of 2 – 3 weeks ago are over. The reservoirs are full or nearly full. Mid level snow pack is starting to melt. The rivers around here should have good flows this summer.
The South Fork, at this time, has not had a lot of pressure. The flow today is at 9700 cfs, far below our normal flow for this time of year. Palisades is at 76% and filling fast. Fishing reports from the South Fork are sparse, not many people are fishing. Rubber leg bonnets, stone fly nymphs, bead heads, and streamers are working well. The Salmon fly hatch on the South Fork is still 3 – 4 weeks away.
Box Canyon flow is 1371 cfs and fishing well. Rubber legs, prince nymphs, salmon flies, golden stones are working here. Salmon flies should be going full fledged on this section soon.
The Harriman Ranch is still closed at this time (opens June 15th). Henrys Fork is fishing well and is very crowded. Lotsa bugs, lotsa fisherman. The salmon flies are at Riverside Campground now. Fishing below Mesa Falls to Ashton has been good; the water is high and has some color from Robinson Creek. In this section golden stones are next as well as green drakes.
The Madison is at this time just so-so. There is still color coming in at the West Fork. This will begin to drop and clear soon.
Rivers that are fishing well: Bighorn, Big Hole, and Big Mo at Craig.
