| Madison
River
One of the best wild trout fisheries that Montana
has to offer is less than forty-five minutes from Last Chance
Lodge. The Madison River is often referred to as the fifty-mile
riffle due to its fast pocket water. Several floats and endless
wading opportunities exist between Raynolds Pass and Ennis.
This section provides excellent hatches and a variety of water
including shallow rocky riffles and braided channels.
Salmonflies, golden stones, blue-winged olives, terrestrials,
pale-morning duns, caddis and march browns provide excellent
dry fly fishing opportunities throughout the season on the
Madison. Anglers fishing nymphs and streamers are often rewarded
by larger trout. Stonefly nymphs, serendipities, caddis larvae,
copper johns, zonkers, muddler minnows & conehead buggers
are very effective patterns on the Madison.

Madison Brown |
Despite whirling disease problems reported in the mid nineties,
the Madison River is fishing very well again. Biologists are
reporting very healthy numbers of mature rainbows and large
brown trout.
