Don Mathews is the owner of ���Dfishinfool���s Guide Service���. He is a full time Steelhead Guide who lives in Ohio. He grew up in a fishing family and his earliest memories involve fishing. He has been guiding for steelhead since 1998. Before that he worked guiding in bear hunters and fishermen in the remote Quebec wilderness.
He fishes ���Steelhead Alley��� for a living but he lives to fish. He has fished in almost every state and province in North America. He isn���t shy in saying there is no place like home. He considers Ohio to be Steelhead paradise..!! After steelhead season winds down in May, he heads to Florida in search of Tarpon. Next stop is Cape Cod and the famous flats of Monomoy for Stripped Bass. In the summer you can find him prowling Lake Erie chasing small mouth bass. He also is just a short drive from some of the famous Pennsylvania trout streams and when the big hatches are occurring that���s where he will be. This holds him over until the first Skamania Strain Steelhead and Chinook salmon start showing up in Indiana and Michigan. Don fishes well over 200 days a year.
Don is licensed to Guide in New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio. He is fully insured and is certified in CPR, First Aid, and Water Safety. He is an expert fly caster and fly tier who enjoys teaching his craft. He is under contract with the Ashtabula County Metro-parks giving him year round access to the boat ramps on Ohio���s Grand River. He is one of the only guides in Ohio who offers float trips for steelhead.
Don is an accomplished outdoor writer and has several articles published each year. His original great lakes fly patterns have appeared in Fly fisherman and Fly Rod and Reel magazines. He has made several TV episodes with DeVaul Outdoors and Northeastern Outdoors. In the winter months he travels and puts on seminars at sportsman shows and fishing clubs.
He has assembled a team of the best area guides. Each spring and fall they offer all inclusive guided trips on ���steelhead Alley��� as well as put on the popular ���Steelhead School���, a three day comprehensive class on the art of steelhead fishing.
